A reimagining of the creation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” this film centers on the familial trauma after the death of Shakespeare’s young son. The cast, including the youthful actors, is stellar and mesmerizing, but none more so than Jessie Buckley, whose viscerally painful portrayal of Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes, earned her a best actress Oscar. Despite the anguish in the film, the finale is remarkably uplifting.
